Classification Challenge

This is a Squalus Acutirostris

                Kingdom: Animalia(means it's an animal)
Phylum: Chordata( means it has a backbone)
Class: Chondrichthyes(means are jawed fish with paired fins)
Order:Squaliformes(is an order of sharks that includes about 97 species in seven families)
Family:Squalidae(means the family of dogfish sharks)
Genus:Squalus(means is a large genus of dogfish sharks)
Species:Acutirostris(is a dogfish shark of the family squalidae)

A dogfish or a Squalus Actirostris are harmless. They are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. Also from tropical equatorial climates to the Arctic and antarctic. They are small to medium sized sharks (48 centimeters 19in) to 16 meters or (5.2 ft) in adult body length. They have 2 dorsal fins with smooth spines. They have no anal fins. They have or possess venom and it coats the dorsal spines but is mildly toxic to humans. They are carnivores and prey upon organisms smaller than themselves.

cricket investigation

Question: Do crickets prefer light or dark environments?

Hypothesis: If I put a dark area in the tank. Then I think the cricket will be in that area. Because that's where they like to be the most.

Background Research: Crickets can live in different places. Some habitats are like meadows, trees, forests, lawns, and houses. Crickets are important in the ecosystem. Because they can breakdown plant material. Things they eat is grass, fruits, seedling plants, fungi, and meat. I also found out that male crickets make the sound. I also found out that small owls, spiders, birds, mice, shrews, snakes, frogs, and opossums can eat crickets.

The cricket is on top of the tube which the inside is dark.

This is the Data picture.

The data picture mostly shows that the cricket is on top of the tube and again inside is dark.

What I did: First I had to pick one question from I think four questions as a group. And then with that question I had to a hypothesis with the if, then, and because format. With the research I did about crickets and recorded in my notebook I just had to put it in a paragraph. I took a picture of the cricket in the tank with the dark area in it. i also took a picture of how I collected data and that's it.

What I learned: Doing this I learned that somethings can easy and some can be hard to do. Because you not make the cricket do something you want them to do. I saw that the cricket liked to be on top of the tube which inside is dark. The cricket was in the dark area but not for a long time. Not a long time to convince me they like the dark. And that show that my hypothesis is wrong I was wrong because I said that it will be or stay in the dark area.

This Week In Science #6

This week in science I did some research on crickets. It was based on what are there needs. Like what kind of food they eat,how do they live thing like that. And then I made testable questions or you could of pick one that the class made. Finally I did Dichotomous keys one of them was a list style and the other one is flow chart style. Based on jelly belly I think because they were different color one and some of them had spots.
These are jelly belly's and as you can see they come in different colors and some with spots.
This week in science I learned that there's different kinds of crickets. And that some of them have different things on them like one has wings and another don't have wings. Also I learned more about Dichotomous keys. Because last year in the 8th grade I did something like the list style. So that's why I got fast. And it was with different animals I did it with last year.

This week in science #5

This week in science, the first thing I did was finish my Rocket conclusion. Then I went in a group to finish my conclusion. I skip a page for a cover page for the new unit. Then the best part is observing crickets and some of them were dead and with one leg missing. Also I look at different videos about animals and there behavior. And I took notes of the animals and there behavior.
This week in science I learned that observing animals could be a bad and a good thing. Because they may do something funny or something horrible. And I learned that drawing about what you are observing could be a good thing in the future. Also I want to know why the crickets make the nose they make.

The cat is on the sofa playing around. Putting its paw in the sides and is really funny and that's why I put it up.
